Solo wander in MATI

I’ve been to Mindanao for the 3rd time already as a solo traveler. I always got thrilled everytime I set foot on this region for the reason that this part of the country is full of adventure and surprises— just say it and they all have it.

I booked a round-trip ticket from Bacolod bound for Davao for a 5days solo backpacking trip and opt to fulfill some things on my  bucket list— surfing, paragliding and trek to Lake Holon— that would made my birthday month more memorable.

MATI,DAVAO

As soon as I arrived in Davao, I walked outside the airport & waited for a van  going to Mati. If you’re more comfortable to take a bus,then you have an option to go in Ecoland Terminal where buses usually parked.

Travel Time:3- 4 hours travel time to reach Mati.
Fare:  Bus(200-220)|| Van (230-250)

Upon arrival, habal-habal drivers are waiting near terminal to assist tourists for a tour.There are lots of resorts where you can stay for a night.I brought my tent and hammock with me,so  I decided to stay in Amihan sa Dahican for a beach camp.

Camping fee:
(w/own tent) -100 pesos
(tent rental+camp) -200pesos

I’ve got the chance to make friends with the famous surfing team—Amihan. This group had already won several surfing competitions in Asia. Winston Plaza,one of the member , was my surfing instructor that day and we spent hours in the beach for surfing lesson and snorkeling to look for sea-turtles. He also taught me basic techniques in free-diving and share some stories about their advocacy in protecting sea turtles and other marine life.
